Learning German in Berlin



Berlin is a city that offers a wide range of German courses. This makes it often overextending to find over hundreds of schools and courses what you need. Therefore, we are here to help you. If you live in Berlin and are planning to stay here, if you have a multilingual family and want to enhance your or your child’s German skills, the following courses are apt for you. Our selection includes courses for adults, parents and children. We give you examples of courses and prices, so that you can compare them. 




General German courses for adults:

  • Goethe Institut:

Goethe Institut is rather expensive, but the courses are effective and the teachers are highly qualified. The CEFR Certificates and the TestDaF examinations can be taken there.   • Volkshochschule:

The Volkshochschule offers courses on all levels of the CEFR, in different intensities (2-25 h per week), and at considerably low prices. The school buildings are spread over the whole area of Berlin and offer a great variety of German courses (i.e. pronunciation training or the reading of newspapers) at different times.

  • Dialog Sprachschule:

In Dialog Sprachschule all courses are taught in German. The school provides preparation courses for the official German exams.

  • ESL Prolog:

This language school is internationally accepted. The courses are small (about 10 participants) and not expensive. It offers the preparation for various exams.
GALA-Deutschkurs (for those who stay in Berlin, and would like to improve their German skills continuously): 12/24/48 weeks, 2 times per week, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. or 7:45 - 9:15 p.m., € 120,00/112,00/96,00 per month

  • Logo! Sprachenschule Prenzlauer Berg:

A small private school close to the city centre, where teachers are specialized in teaching German as a foreign language. The courses are extremely small (4 - 8 pupils), and taught at different timetables. TELC-examinations can be taken there. A standard course: 10 weeks, 2 times per week, 10.00 - 11.30 a.m./ 2.00 - 3:30 p.m./ 5:45 - 7:15 p.m./

  • Parlando - Institut für Sprache und Kultur:

Parlando is specialized in teaching German as a foreign language. The Volkshochschule offers German courses for parents in schools or Kitas while their children are having class. While learning the language in which their children are taught, parents do not only get the possibility to support their children with their educational career, but they also have contact to other parents. Goethe Institut offers summer camps for children and youth from 9 to 21 years. They are sent to one of the school’s institutes in Germany, where they learn German, and do exciting activities after the lessons. Spielsprachschule teaches children from 3 to 12 years. It is specialized in early   language acquisition. The teachers work with the method of immersion, which means that the children are immersed into an environment, where only the language they learn is spoken. Concerning the method, the language is taught in a playful way, by employing the sense of hearing, smell, touch, taste, and sight. The inca project (can be ordered at Iberica): a special language learning programme for teachers or parents that want to support their children in learning a language at home. Czech, German, Greek, English, Estonian, French and Spanish are taught by using modern media.  One of the goals is to aim the motivation of children from 5 to 7 years to learn foreign languages and to enhance their understanding of different cultures. Another goal of the programme is to develop the multilingual potential in children.
